THE CHALLENGE

What was breaking before InboxChange

  • Industry-standard online-course drop-off: 60% of students never finished week 1. Most were paying ₹15,000-₹40,000 upfront and giving up by day 8.
  • Email reminders had 8% open rates, mostly going to gmail's 'Promotions' tab. Students said they 'meant to start' but life got in the way.
  • App push notifications were disabled by 70% of students within 48 hours — too noisy, too generic.
  • Teaching staff couldn't possibly call every drop-off — too expensive, and many drop-offs were just busy not unmotivated.

WHAT WE BUILT

The fix, deployed in 6 months

  • Built a daily streak nudge system. After each lesson completion, InboxChange fires a WhatsApp message at the student's preferred study time (8 PM IST default) with: their daily quiz link, a streak counter, and a 'continue from where you left off' deep link.
  • Set up break-recovery sequences: if a student goes 2 days without lesson completion, gentle nudge ('your streak is at risk'). 4 days = teaching mentor message ('I noticed you missed two days; want to talk?'). 7 days = 'come back to where you stopped' with a personalized topic recap.
  • Wired daily quiz scores into InboxChange — students who scored below 60% on a quiz got an instant message with the relevant topic explainer + a video link.
  • Built a parent-loop: weekly summary message to a registered parent number ('Aakash completed 5 lessons this week, scoring avg 78%').
